3rd Line IT Engineer

I am currently working with a highly innovative and rapidly growing Defence and Technology Company which is actively seeking a 3rd Line IT Engineer to join their team on a permanent basis in Lincoln.

* Salary: £28,000 – £33,000

This is a great opportunity to join a company in which design, develop and deliver some of the world’s most advanced Defence related training, products and services. They are currently looking to recruit a 3rd Line IT Engineer, who has a ‘can-do’ attitude and experience in a customer facing or service environment.

The successful candidate will be working with the Senior IT Engineer, assisting in all areas of design, security, installation and configuration of new systems and working to maintain, document and manage all aspects of the existing infrastructure. You will be supporting an infrastructure that is largely comprised of Windows Servers, therefore strong Microsoft skills are required, and experience with Linux will be beneficial. There will also be considerable opportunity for on-the-job training, to develop your own skillsets and to pass those skills on to the rest of the team.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

* Develop and maintain an in-depth understanding of the companies resources, capabilities, infrastructure and the technologies we use.
* Apply the principles of security by design. Configure and maintain the infrastructure’s network architecture, manage design changes and network development.
* Lead various projects for the development of new services and the growth and development of our existing systems.
* Create and maintain documentation to detail changes or configuration settings in a way other engineers can follow and apply.
* Monitor system operations and health, performing system audits and log analysis as necessary.
* Apply timely updates and patching of the companies infrastructure subject to business requirements and perceived risks.
* Coordinate and work with suppliers, contractors and other third parties.
* Perform security testing with standard software to identify vulnerabilities, rectifying and retesting where necessary.
* Provide IT advice and guidance in plain/layman’s terms across all areas of the business.

Key Skills/Experience:

* Experience in networking and significant experience working with and optimising Windows server environments.
* Experience working with Cisco switches, VSphere and Veeam. In addition, any existing knowledge / experience of Fortinet devices, Sophos products, Clearswift gateways, Hyper-V, and MS O365 / Azure will be beneficial.
* Comfortable configuring and managing Exchange, working with AD services, database servers, web servers having a good basic knowledge of endpoint and mobile technologies.
* You will be an engineer and a problem solver at heart with an analytical approach and you will benefit from good organisational and administrative skills.
