Electro-Optic Technologies Group Leader


An exciting opportunity has arisen to join newly created Electro-Optic Technology group, with a market-leading, multi-national defence company, based in either Bristol or Stevenage. In this role you will lead a small team of Electro-Optic subject matter experts, creating ‘technology value’ within the department. Within the business you will connect with the future programme and portfolio demands and develop the Electro-Optic technology roadmaps to define the department’s research and development programmes. Externally, with the customers and stakeholders, you will advise on what technologies are of importance to the company’s future portfolio and also to identify and compete for external funding, enabling the building of partnerships with key suppliers, SMEs and academic institutes.

The typical responsibilities of this position include:

* The coordination of Electro-Optic Technology R&D, across internal and external funding frameworks
* Working with a highly motivated group of SMEs and technologists on the exploitation of next generation Electro-Optic technologies, such as LADAR/LIDAR and Computational Imaging
* Taking ‘blue-sky’ ideas and turning them into technology demonstrations to support future programme concepts
* Engagement across international sites, including Germany, France and Italy

What we are looking for:

* A broad understanding of Electro-Optics and ideally Electro-Optics imaging technology
* Experience of strong team leadership and practice of team management skills and tasks
* Experience of system design across the full lifecycle from requirements elicitation and management through to verification and validation
* Experience of work package management, including risk management, finance control, programme management and reporting
* An ability to motivate yourself and others to achieve demanding and evolving tasks while maintaining a calm professional manner
* Awareness of systems & technical software packages such as Rhapsody, DOORS, Creo, Mathworks
* Qualified to degree level or equivalent experience in Engineering, Physics, Electronics, or maths related subjects
