Technical Director, Dorset, Circa £80,000 + Fully Expensed Company Car, Excellent Bonus Scheme and Benefits Package
A highly successful and forward-thinking engineering / manufacturing organisation have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Director to join their team on a permanent basis to work at their site in Dorset.
Working within a progressive, medium volume / high mix manufacturing environment the Technical Director will report directly to the Managing Director and will form part of the senior management team. The main responsibilities associated with the position are: To provide inspirational leadership, coaching and development to the Technical Team consisting predominantly of Mechanical Design Engineers and Production Engineers; Delivering New Product Introduction programmes from concept to commercial manufacture on time and budget whilst ensuring compliance with the appropriate standards; Guiding and delivering engineering projects, delegating workloads, and assessing / setting priorities.
Other responsibilities include: Creating and implementing best practice engineering vision, strategy and policies to aid business performance; Contributing to overall business strategy and annual budget process; Evaluating challenges faced by the business and taking action to mitigate risks and develop opportunities; Co-ordinating with manufacturing to ensure manufacturability of product; Management of existing products through product life cycle; Leading manufacturing projects including capital investment and Lean Manufacturing best practice in order to drive continuous improvements; Tracking, reporting and driving improvements to engineering performance metrics; Managing all intellectual property, patents and designs; Developing the ERP system to improve production engineering processes.
In order to be considered for this position candidates need to have proven experience as a Technical Director or similar, and as such have strong demonstrable experience leading, coaching and developing teams of Mechanical Design and Production Engineers to deliver New Product Introduction (NPI) programmes from concept to manufacture. In addition to this the successful candidate must have a good understanding of how products are made, and as such have an excellent knowledge base in any / some of the following modern manufacturing processes: Sheetmetal, fabrication, machining, mouldings, castings, welding, Design for Manufacture (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA). It would be highly advantageous to hold a formal qualification i.e. Chartered Engineer status, Masters degree, Degree, HND in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related subject such as Manufacturing Engineering or Production Engineering, as it would be to have an appreciation of Lean Manufacturing including tools and techniques. It would also be advantageous to have knowledge experience in any of the following areas: Leading multiple NPI projects, Work Instructions, Engineer Change Requests, A top end 3D CAD package, Cellular manufacturing, Implementing Lean Manufacturing strategies, Plant layout, Developing an ERP system, high precision, medium volume or high mix manufacturing environments.

This position is commutable from Salisbury, Ringwood, Weymouth, Dorchester, Blandford Forum, Poole, Bournemouth, Cristchurch, Yeovil, Southampton and other areas within Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset and the South Coast.
